Myha’la Is Thinking Big – And We Witnessed It at Vandervoort

Actress Myha’la Herrold brought powerful presence and creative energy to Vandervoort Studio for her latest Marie Claire cover story—an intimate and fashion-forward shoot that matched the spirit of transformation explored in her feature. Captured through the lens of photographer Andy Jackson (@anndyjackson), the portrait session balanced soft natural light, sharp styling, and introspective mood—offering a fitting backdrop for an artist at the precipice of reinvention.

Known for her uncompromising role as Harper Stern in HBO’s Industry, Myha’la is stepping into a new chapter both on screen and off. This story—fittingly titled Myha’la Is Thinking Big—delves into the emotional complexity of an actress navigating a character in free fall while manifesting her own growth with calm confidence. The imagery needed to reflect that balance, and Vandervoort’s refined yet versatile studio environment gave the team exactly that.

A Studio That Shapes Atmosphere

The shoot was anchored in Vandervoort’s signature daylight space, which allowed the team to use the glow of soft morning light as a character in itself. The minimal set design, built to emphasize texture and color, elevated the fashion narrative while keeping focus on Myha’la’s expressions and posture. Set against concrete textures and clean architectural lines, the setting echoed both the editorial’s themes of inner strength and the grounded luxury of the styling.

Fashion stylist Aryeh Lappin (@aryehlappin) curated a look that felt fresh, layered, and confidently playful—a satin bow cap and sharp collar details juxtaposed with Myha’la’s clean, cropped haircut that’s symbolic of personal evolution. The Miu Miu shirting and layered cuffs brought a collegiate but subversive note, hinting at Harper’s rigid workplace world while subverting it entirely in tone.

Hair artist Cody Ainey (@codyaainey) crafted sleek structure with softness, while makeup by Shyanna Lundi (@shyannalundi) brought warmth and clarity to Myha’la’s complexion—grounding the visual storytelling in authenticity. Nori (@nailnori) added finishing details that were minimal yet thoughtful, in line with the story’s editorial styling.

An Editorial About Expansion, Not Reinvention

Marie Claire’s feature finds Myha’la at a pivotal moment, exploring how she’s shifting gears personally and professionally—from her character’s dramatic unraveling to her real-life artistic blooming. The storytelling, both visual and written by Jessica M. Goldstein, centers around the idea of expansion—not as a reinvention, but as a more unapologetic version of herself coming into view.

And that made Vandervoort the ideal home base for this shoot. The studio’s flexibility—both in lighting and layout—allowed the team to work efficiently while staying open to improvisation. It’s that creative ease that clients return for: whether building a high-concept set or shooting with natural light, Vandervoort’s space meets each vision with clarity and calm.

Behind the Scenes, With Intention

The shoot’s pacing mirrored Myha’la’s energy—focused but unfussy. As she posed in the daylight-flooded corner, there was a sense of assured vulnerability, captured beautifully in Jackson’s quiet, portrait-forward compositions. There’s a rawness in Myha’la’s gaze, the kind of moment that can only be created when an artist feels comfortable, seen, and creatively supported. At Vandervoort, we’re proud to offer that kind of space—where crew, talent, and vision align.

A New Phase, A Familiar Ground

As Myha’la steps into bigger roles—both as an actress and creative voice—we’re honored to have been the space where part of that story was told. Fashion, identity, and storytelling often intersect in the walls of our studio, but when everything aligns—like it did on this shoot—the result is more than editorial. It becomes a portrait of a person in motion.

Thank you to the entire team for bringing this beautiful project to life at Vandervoort Studio. We look forward to watching Myha’la’s star continue to rise—and to offering the backdrop for many more defining moments to come.
