Sky Ferreira for DAZED: Unfiltered Emotion at Vandervoort Studio

When Sky Ferreira arrived at Vandervoort Studio for her Dazed cover shoot, there was no entourage, no spectacle—just a rare kind of focus, rawness, and disarming honesty. Known for sidestepping the glossed-over version of pop stardom, Sky brought that same unfiltered spirit to our space. Her shoot, captured by the inimitable Collier Schorr, was less about constructing a persona and more about letting the walls fall away.

In collaboration with an elite creative team—including hair stylist Holli Smith, makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo, and set designer Matt Jackson—the editorial was built around a single idea: vulnerability as strength. With Sky, the process wasn’t about over-direction or high-concept theatrics. Instead, it was about providing the space—and silence—for something real to happen.

Under the studio’s muted skylight and polished concrete floors, Sky became the ultimate contradiction: fierce and fragile, commanding yet quiet. Draped in custom-cut lingerie and armed only with her own magnetism, she posed with the confidence of someone who has weathered storms and come out sharper on the other side.

The session moved quickly, intuitively. Collier, known for portraiture that pierces through the noise, kept the lighting minimal and crisp, allowing Sky’s skin to glow naturally. You could feel the chemistry between subject and photographer; they seemed to speak in glances, in pauses, in breaths. It’s a rarity in fashion shoots—those moments where the room quiets and the image becomes a kind of living thing.

And then there was the cover. Arms lifted behind her head, wet strands of hair clinging to her collarbone, Sky stares into the lens with the expression of someone who knows the cost of being misunderstood—and leans into it anyway. “Hard Feeler” reads the caption, a fitting badge for someone who’s never been afraid to show the cracks. It’s an image that doesn’t ask for approval; it dares you to look longer.

That’s the thing about Sky Ferreira—she doesn’t perform vulnerability. She embodies it. And that energy charged the shoot from beginning to end.

The creative team brought their A-game. Madeline Poole’s manicured details were nearly invisible to the eye but added subtle edge, while PJ Spaniol’s lighting design let the shadows linger just enough to underscore the emotional weight of each frame. It was this cohesion—an intuitive blend of talent, intention, and trust—that made the shoot more than just another editorial. It became a portrait of a woman who feels everything and edits nothing.

At Vandervoort, our philosophy has always been to let the artists breathe. We’re proud that our studio could offer the quiet, light, and versatility needed to bring this story to life. In an industry that often prioritizes speed and polish, we still believe in the power of stillness, in a space where something uncontrolled can happen.

Sky didn’t come to promote a record. She wasn’t selling a perfume or launching a campaign. She simply showed up and allowed herself to be—and that, in itself, became the statement.

For us, it was a reminder of why we do what we do. Fashion may be an industry of surfaces, but when artists like Sky step in front of the camera, we remember what’s underneath. Sometimes the boldest image isn’t the most elaborate—it’s the one that tells the truth.
